Dough Drop Soup
Introduction:
Today I am going to introduce a very special recipe for you. You can say that it is a soup. But you can also say that it is a staple. I take it as the latter because it has its flavor and also acts as a filler.
I doubt that you have ever eaten one of these. Really, if you are living outside of China, it’s too scarce to see. Even not everyone of the people living in China have ever seen or tried it. This is because I have never seen it appear in the southern part of China ever since I moved here 4 years ago.
Ingredients:
Wheat flour: 200 g
Cucumber: a half
Tomato: 1 medium-sized
Dried wood ear: 4 pieces
Seasonings:
Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
Scallion: 1 tablespoon (coarsely chopped)
Vegetable oil: 1 tablespoon
Caraway: 1 stick
Preparation Work:
1. Get the scallion washed and chopped;
2. Take a big basin, pour the flour into it, stir while adding water to it until the flour becomes dough drops which are separate from each other;
3. Rinse the cucumber and dice it; coarsely chop the caraway;
4. Wash the tomato clean and slice it;
5. Immerse the wood ear mushrooms in the hot water (which should be heated in advance), clean and mince them after they get softened;
Cooking Steps:
1. Pour 3 bowls of water into the wok and boil it;
2. Drop the tomato slices and wood ear mushroom mince into the boiling water;
3. Add in the cucumber dices, salt, vegetable oil, chopped scallion, chopped caraway when the dough drops come to the surface of the water;
4. It’s ready for serving after stirring briefly until the ingredients of the soup are mixed fully.
